The US FAA has reinstated a category one safety rating for Croatia, after downgrading the country to category two in September 2008.

The safety downgrade occurred after the USA and Croatia forged an open skies agreement in March 2008.

Now FAA has determined Croatia complies with ICAO's international air safety standards.

FAA issues a downgrade to category two after it determines a country either lacks laws or regulations necessary to oversee air carriers in accordance with minimum international standards, or that its civil aviation authority is deficient in one or more areas of technical expertise, trained personnel, inspections or recordkeeping.

With the restoration of Croatia's safety rating to category one, Croatian carriers can now seek approval for new flights to the USA.
