Alabama-based PPG Aerospace has developed a windshield for Airbus A320-family aircraft that is designed to improve moisture resistance and reduce maintenance downtime.
The windshields are available for use on Airbus A318s, A319s, A320s and A321s as both original equipment and replacement applications.
PPG says its PR-2060 polyurethane sealant is better at reducing moisture vapour transmission than previously used sealants. The windshield is also designed to offer improved performance at maintaining elasticity and preventing cold chipping.
"The redesigned windshields incorporate new PRC sealants from PPG Aerospace, a different interlayer and an improved electrical system that combine to provide a superior defence against moisture ingress," says PPG Aerospace global director commercial transparencies James Romano.
"By working with operators and Airbus, PPG can use field performance to identify opportunities for improvements that will extend windshield service life."
