New upstart cargo carrier Nordic Global Airlines plans to inaugurate its operations with a single MD-11 freighter.

Finnair's freight division has opted to take a minority stake in the carrier, and Nordic Global's other owners are US-based Neff Capital management and Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company.

"The company will begin service with a single MD-11F, but expects to lease an additional wide-body freighter aircraft within the first year of operations," says Neff Capital. Nordic Global expects to launch service later this year.

Neff Capital also states tentative routings are Helsinki to Asia and North America.

In unveiling its minority stake in Nordic Global Finnair Cargo stated: "This shareholding will provide us with additional, cost-efficient cargo capacity, thus enabling continued growth in the steadily increasing Asian freight markets."
