Boeing is confident of securing more sales for its 787 in Russia and neighbouring CIS countries, a market it reckons is worth $80 billion in the long term. The Dreamliner made its Russian debut at the show, with Boeing's vice president of marketing, Randy Tinseth, joking that it had attracted a "bigger crowd" of onlookers on the first day than the Airbus A380, displayed alongside.
Aeroflot is so far the only CIS airline to have ordered the 787, with a commitment for 22. However, Tinseth said the US airframer is in talks with several potential customers that are looking to replace legacy Soviet-era types. "Its range and capabilities make it perfect for airlines who want to open up international service," he said.
